If I were more computer savvy, I would be able to get the NAS to act as a web server, mail server, home-based dropbox, or online file server. I keep my porn on an encrypted share, so if I die, all of my sick shit is impossible to recover without a password. You just create a "share" and it appears as a folder on your network. It isn't like making a partition with disk utility. My NAS automatically adjusts the partition sizes.

The NAS has a movie server that you can point to the iTunes folder and it will serve all of your movies to a Roku, even if your Macs are shut down. I have a different partition on the nas for music that iTunes uses as the library on my main machine, so it also serves to store my movies. This provides the ability to restore a Mac and look at old files in case I delete something by mistake or want an older version of a file. The Nas is plugged into my Airport extreme and my 3 Macs backup automatically whenever I'm at home on the network. I have a partition in the NAS for Time machine.

I don't get 6tb, I only get three, but the data is redundant. They are set up in a raid where if one dies it doesn't kill the data and alerts me to replace the defective drive. I have an external drive but I rarely plug it in, so if my computer were to be stolen/break/whatever I would lose a month off work, photos and whatnot.

I don't want to upgrade the flash drive myself since it seems hard. This is not really enough since I basically need to remove stuff when I get some new music or a movie. I have a Macbook Air with 128GB flash storage.
